Why the charge sheet matters
The charge sheet is the foundation of every disciplinary hearing. If the charge is vague, cites the wrong rule, or labels the conduct instead of describing it, the employee cannot properly answer the case. A commissioner may then find the dismissal procedurally unfair, regardless of what the employee actually did. The result can be reinstatement, back pay or compensation, and a sanction that should have stood is lost on a technicality.
With the Code of Good Practice: Dismissal in force since September 2025, employers have more reason than ever to get the paperwork right from the first step.
What you will learn
- What every charge must contain, so the employee knows exactly what they must answer
- How to describe conduct instead of conclusions, and why words like “gross misconduct” weaken your case
- How to link each charge to the right rule, policy or contract clause
- When and how to use alternative charges
- How to avoid splitting or duplicating charges
- Notice periods, employee rights and what the notice of hearing must include
- The most common charge sheet mistakes seen at the CCMA, and how to avoid them
Who should attend
- HR managers, IR practitioners , HR Executives, HR Directors and CEO’s
- Business owners without an in-house HR or legal team
- Employers in IT, engineering, skills development and training, where restraint, confidentiality, attendance and contract disputes are common

SDF

Getting this wrong, or leaving the role unfilled, means missed WSP/ATR deadlines and forfeited SETA grant funding you have already paid into. LBD Consultants provides SDF services South Africa employers rely on to stay compliant and recover value from their skills levy contributions.

Employment Equity
Employment equity compliance in South Africa has moved fast since the Employment Equity Amendment Act came into force, and the sector-specific numerical targets it introduced catch many designated employers off guard. Special Research Projects
Not every need fits neatly into a single service line. A funding round requires HR and financial due diligence in a matter of weeks. A board asks for a full compliance health-check across every discipline at once. A sector benchmarking study needs data no off-the-shelf report can provide. A division wants a documented process flow before it re-engineers a set of occupations, or a training needs analysis to back up a skills development plan.

Training
Every discipline inside LBD Consultants generates practical, hard-won knowledge, from CCMA case handling to WSP/ATR compliance to management accounts. Our Training Division exists to package that knowledge into courses, workshops and webinars your teams can actually use.

Digital Marketing
LBD Consultants provides digital marketing services built specifically for IT, engineering, skills development and training-sector employers, covering Google Ads management, SEO, social media marketing and website design and development under one advisory relationship. Many businesses in these sectors run lean, generalist teams with limited capacity for specialist marketing work, and consequently their websites and campaigns fall behind.
